Great Aunt Rebecca

My Great Aunt Rebecca was a woman ahead of her time.  She was born 100 years to the day before me [we share the same birthday] and lived a relatively unconventional life for a woman in Ohio in the 1850s.

Great Aunt Rebecca was born Rebecca Oldfather.  She married William Fenniman and had four children.  At some point, she left her husband, so the family lore tells, because he was an alcoholic.  She raised her children on her own and became "her own woman" at a time long before women had raised up a banner for equality.

My mother liked the name Rebecca and named me after my Great Aunt Rebecca. On more than one occasion, she has mentioned that I am a lot like my namesake!  I chose to name my restoration business after her memory and to use her restored portrait as my logo.
